If you’re searching for inspiration, 2026 is bringing a wave of ideas designed to help you craft a rehearsal dinner that feels meaningful and memorable. Here’s what’s on the horizon for next year’s most stylish and guest-friendly rehearsal dinners

What’s in

Rooftop events

Rooftop rehearsal dinners are taking center stage in 2026, and it’s easy to see why. With open-air dining and that golden-hour glow, rooftops instantly elevate the vibe without requiring too much décor.

McKenzi Taylor, Founder/Owner of Gather After, confirms, “Rooftop events are more popular than ever. A rooftop bar, beer garden, or terrace sets a more relaxed vibe where guests can laugh, mingle, relax, and enjoy the evening as the sun fades, the bistro lights take over, and the mood always feels lively and celebratory.”

Plus, these venues naturally lend themselves to great photos and easy mingling, two things couples are prioritizing. It’s the perfect blend of ambiance and experience, no extra frills required.

Italian dinner parties

Italian-inspired rehearsal dinners are becoming the go-to for couples who want a warm and intimate evening. This trend is all about “la dolce vita”—slow living, great food, and shared moments.

“A rehearsal dinner trend that I have seen on the rise for 2026 is an Italian dinner party theme,” highlights Liney Castle, Wedding Planner at Twickenham House and Hall. “I have couples wanting to do wood-fired pizza bars where guests can customize their own pizzas, along with pasta stations, and using tomatoes and basil as decor. Another twist on this is the classic ‘Amalfi Coast’ vibe, where lemons and the traditional European blue decor are used.”

The vibe here is effortless yet elegant, and a perfect mix of cozy and celebratory. No matter your venue, Italian dinner party energy turns your rehearsal into a memory guests will talk about for years.

Bigger guest lists

Gone are the days when rehearsal dinners were reserved for parents and the wedding party. In 2026, more couples are expanding the celebration to include extended family, out-of-town guests, and even close friends who aren’t officially part of the wedding lineup.

Sara Landon, Owner & Principal Planner at Sara Landon Events, notes, “We’re seeing a shift away from the traditional seated dinner limited to family and the wedding party, toward a more inclusive celebration that sets the tone for the weekend. I’ve even started rebranding them from ‘rehearsal dinners’ or ‘welcome parties’ to ‘wedding warm-ups.’ It’s a chance for everyone to get to know each other in a relaxed setting, warming up conversationally before the big day.”

This shift also reduces wedding-day pressure. By spending extra time with guests beforehand, couples free up their actual wedding day to be more present and relaxed.

Bold palettes

Couples are officially ditching the muted tones of the past and diving headfirst into bold color palettes for their rehearsal dinners. These pop-forward designs add personality and help differentiate the rehearsal dinner from the wedding day’s main aesthetic.

“Bold, moody tables that include black linens, deep reds, lots of candlelight, a few metallic accents,” says Craig Peterman, Photographer & Videographer at Craig Peterman Photography & Videography. “It photographs great and feels sophisticated.”

What’s great about this trend is also its flexibility. Couples can experiment with colors they love without committing to them for the full wedding.

What’s out

Overspending

Many are steering away from blowing their budgets on the rehearsal dinner, and honestly, it’s a refreshing shift. Instead of feeling the pressure to host an extravagant second wedding, they’re embracing smarter, more intentional spending.

Taylor emphasizes, “Overspending is OUT! Revenge spending that took place in the first few post-pandemic years is seeing a major decline. People are feeling the effects of inflation, job loss, tariffs, and all the other things tugging at their purse strings. Couples are looking for ways to scale down their celebrations. Busting the budget is more painful than ever, and people are saying ‘no’ to unnecessary expenditures as their bills pile up at home.”

The move away from overspending also opens the door for creative planning. From family-style menus to DIY décor, couples are finding ways to keep the evening stylish without draining their budget.

Rustic chic

Rustic chic had a well-loved run, but 2026 is ushering in more refined design styles. Couples are trading burlap, mason jars, and weathered-wood aesthetics for elevated decor choices.

“Some trends that are out for 2026 rehearsal dinners are the ‘rustic chic’ vibe that was on a comeback for a bit in 2025,” outlines Castle. “This style of rehearsal dinner made a brief comeback in 2025 but did not stick for long. Couples tried to use the decor style as a nostalgic look back into the styles of 10 years ago, but only a few couples hopped on that trend.”

This shift reflects a broader trend toward more curated rehearsal dinners that feel polished without being stuffy. The result? Celebrations that look less like barn weddings and more like stylish preview parties for the main event.

Only parents giving speeches

Wedding weekend toasts are getting a major update as couples move away from the tradition of having just the parents speak at the rehearsal dinner. In 2026, couples are opening the floor to more voices.

Landon shares, “One trend that’s fading fast is having only the hosting parents give speeches. Today’s couples tend to be more social, with close-knit circles of friends who’ve been part of their story for years, and they want those voices represented too.”

This approach also removes some of the pressure from the wedding day, when time is tight and emotions are high. By hosting a “toast-friendly” rehearsal, couples can enjoy more personal stories in a relaxed setting.

Staying out too late

Late-night rehearsal dinners are becoming less popular as couples prioritize rest and being fully present on the big day. Instead of partying into the early morning hours, couples are leaning into earlier end times that allow everyone to wake up refreshed for wedding festivities.

Peterson confirms, “Complicated seating charts for a pre-wedding night, party games that stall the room, and anything that keeps people out late before the big day.”

Wrapping up at a reasonable hour keeps the anticipation high for the wedding day itself. Rested guests and a relaxed couple is a kind of trend we can all get behind!

Looking ahead, one thing is clear: rehearsal dinners are becoming more intentional, personal, and fun than ever before. So, regardless of how you celebrate, remember that the rehearsal is your chance to kick off the weekend with warmth, style, and a whole lot of excitement for what’s to come!
